"Farming Matters -- a forum for crop and livestock farmers" will be held March 25, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Gateway Hotel in Ames. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
The educational forum, sponsored by the Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers, will focus on issues vital to both new and experienced crop and livestock farmers.
Attendees will receive exclusive insight on managing rising energy and input costs, an overview of rules and regulations impacting livestock farming and effectively communicating livestock issues with neighbors. Experts will also provide an overview of considerations that must be made when starting a new hog or cattle farm or growing an existing farm.
Speakers will include Montana logger and ag advocate Bruce Vincent, ISU's Dr. John Lawrence, Eldon McAfee of the Iowa Pork Producers and cattle expert Evan Vermeer. A variety of experts will also be on hand throughout the day to answer questions related to livestock financing, manure management and neighbor relations.
Nearly 90 farmers have registered and more are welcomed to register the day of the event. The cost is just $50. For more information, call 515-975-4168.
